ebayaday was a month-long serial exhibit, using eBay as venue. Curated by University of Michigan professors Rebekah Modrak, Aaron Ahuvia and MFA candidate Zackery Denfeld, ebayaday consists of 25 auctions (one debuts each day) in which the entire eBay listing (item for sale, descriptive text and imagery and placement within chosen categories) is the artwork. Works presented in the show exploit, redefine or underscore eBay’s potential in the exchange of ideas, objects and money.
Helping to define the exhibits identity, I designed and executed all of the show’s printed materials. This included the exhibition catalog, promotional posters, and the materials for a follow up show in a more traditional gallery space.
The most exciting aspect of the design quickly became the catalog which consisted of a small booklet with articles, postcards documenting each artists’ work, and large map displaying the point of origination and final buyer location for all exhibition pieces. I designed the whole package to reflect and draw attention to the unique relationship between artist and audience through ebay.
Overall I’m quite pleased with the final product. I think we produced a unique catalog to represent a distinctive exhibit.
